About Global Warming

together we can save the planet

Global warming is the long-term warming of the planet’s overall temperature. Though this warming trend has been going on for a long time, its pace has significantly increased in the last hundred years due to the burning of fossil fuels. As the human population has increased, so has the volume of fossil fuels burned. Fossil fuels include coal, oil, and natural gas, and burning them causes what is known as the “greenhouse effect” in Earth’s atmosphere.

Global warming causes climate change, which poses a serious threat to life on Earth in the forms of widespread flooding and extreme weather.

Ecosystem

The size and speed of global warming is making abrupt changes in ecosystems more likely. Overall, it is expected that climate change will result in the extinction of many species.

water resources

Climate change affects the world's water in complex ways. From unpredictable rainfall patterns to shrinking ice sheets, rising sea levels, floods and droughts - most impacts of climate change come down to water

Plants

Rising temperatures lead to more frequent droughts, wildfires, and invasive pest outbreaks, leading to the loss of plant species

animals

The world’s wildlife and habitats will also face profound, sometimes catastrophic, change. Increases in temperature could trigger the collapse of fragile ecosystems and huge waves of extinction. The choices we make today have the power to reduce the suffering of people and animals in the future.

temperature

Higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heat waves, floods, and droughts. A warmer climate creates an atmosphere that can collect, retain, and unleash more water, changing weather patterns in such a way that wet areas become wetter and dry areas drier.

On Thin Ice

Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) have become a symbol of global warming, because the Arctic landscape is one of the first to absorb the impact of rising temperatures. Warming temperatures melt polar ice and force animals like the polar bear to move farther south in search of food and other resources.

cattle-ranching

Ranching is one of the leading human contributors to global warming, the current rise in temperatures on Earth. Agricultural technology contributes to the amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases trap the sun's heat in Earth's atmosphere, increasing the gradual warming of the planet.

Coral Bleaching

This coral reef off the coast of Negril, Jamaica, has been partially "bleached," an impact of global warming. Rising ocean temperatures, in addition to increased runoff from agriculture and industry, contribute to coral communities dying and the reef being "bleached" of its bright color.
